Felix' Latex Catsuit Buying Guide
TL;DR: Get a black .45mm or .6mm made to measure suit with shoulder zips and crotch zip. No attached gloves; attached socks are fine.
Here are Felix’s considerations for getting a catsuit. It’s based on the assumption that this catsuit will be your only catsuit for a while. It should last a long time, and be versatile – you should be able to wear it at home, at fetish parties, at Pride events, alone, with someone else etc. I also assume you will want a skin-tight suit (I don't do loose suits.)
When in doubt, get what turns you on. You’re buying the gear for your own pleasure, after all. If what turns you on is a 1.2mm total enclosure suit with gas mask and water tight zips – go and get that! (MD Latex makes good ones.) If you don't know what you want, here are some recommendations.
Thinner suits will give you more of a “second skin” feeling. Thicker suits are more of a “bondage feeling” that impedes your movement. Thinner than .45mm will be fragile; thicker than .6mm will stretch very little and be very restrictive.
.9mm suits are basically only good for standing around and lying in a relaxed position; they won't endure more challenging bondage positions for example. .9mm will also break at the seams because it gets flexed at the edge of the seam – I've done many repairs on the shoulder seams of my .9mm suits.
SkinTightRubber has a sizing chart with a lot of intermediate sizes (like “medium short”). Otherwise you have to be very lucky to fit into the standard sizes, and should probably try the suit on in person before buying it. Over the internet I basically only buy made to measure. Don’t get a suit that doesn’t fit, you won’t enjoy it and it will break more quickly if it’s too small (and look bad if it's too big.)
Zips don’t stretch, rubber does. That means if you get a back zip and you bend forward, the zip won’t stretch and make it hard to bend; front zips will bunch up if you bend forward. Shoulder zips avoid this problem. They are a little harder to get into, but well worth it for fit.
Neck entry or face entry are great for fit – they truly feel like a second skin. But they also need to stretch a lot to get into and out of, so they will break quickly. You might also not be able to get out of them yourself, because it’s hard to get enough leverage to stretch the rubber far enough. Don’t get a neck entry or face entry suit as your first (or only) suit.
If you don’t need access to your bum, get what you like better. If you like anal stuff, get a crotch zip – otherwise you’ll end up with a codpiece and a back zipper that ends in the middle of the crotch, which is the part of the suit that gets stretched the most.
Lockable zips are a great option if you like being locked in. But beware that they will not stay closed unless they are locked up (they lack the catch that makes regular zips stay closed) so you have to lock them all the time.
Many manufacturers have different selections of thicknesses for different colours. Black is available in all thicknesses; many other colours are often only available in .45mm or thinner. Metallic colours will retain some of the shine even when they're not polished. Light colours (like white, orange, yellow etc.) will get stained and discolour very quickly. Accessories like gloves and socks are often only available in a very limited selection of colours, so these may break your colour scheme if you get a different colour. Some manufacturers offer multi colour suits with various designs.
Attached gloves are super horny. But you may want to cover the suit with clothes at some point to go to an event, and gloves are hard to hide. Also, gloves are the first thing that breaks – I have replaced and repaired the attached gloves on my suits many of times.
Glove sizing is also really hard, and sometimes sizing will even differ for different pairs of gloves from the same manufacturer. If you want attached gloves, get a pair that really fits you, and send them to the manufacturer, or attach them yourself.
Attached socks have the advantage that you don’t leak sweat out of your legs. They have the disadvantage that the sweat pools in your socks. As for durability, all my suits have attached sockes and I’ve never worn out a pair.
Toe socks mean you can also wear tabi boots and flip flops with your suit. Plus they feel great. Unfortunately, only Blackstyle makes them. (And Latex Catfish but theirs are funny.) You might be able to buy them from Blackstyle and send them to a different manufacturer to have them attach them, or attach them yourself.
Penis sheaths are the first thing that breaks, because, well, they tend to get flexed a lot ifyouknowwhatimean. Anal sheaths have an obvious hygiene problem. If you like sheaths, wear shorts with sheaths under the suit – that way you can just replace the shorts when the sheaths break.
Many manufacturers will do custom work if you ask them nicely, even for stuff that's not listed as an option in their catalog. If you like an option from one manufacturer but would rather order from another one, ask that one whether they're willing to do that option as custom work.
I love suits with everything (hood, gloves, socks) attached. I have some with an open face hood attached, so I can wear my doggy hood over it.
You can also combine an attached hood with a shoulder zip; Blackstyle will do this design if you ask, with a single shoulder zip. The trick for getting into these is to zip one side up to the shoulder, wiggle into it, and then zip it all the way across. Inverted T zips for attached hoods are tricky to get into by yourself.
I have a suit with an inseam zip and attached everything. It's super horny that the only openings above the waist are the nostril holes – but it's not very practical.
Oh, and did I mention lockable zips? Blackstyle and Rubbaddiction will do them if you ask. The ones from Latex Catfish have been pretty unreliable so far, so I'm not getting them anymore.

Thickness
Get a .45mm or a .6mm suit.Thinner suits will give you more of a “second skin” feeling. Thicker suits are more of a “bondage feeling” that impedes your movement. Thinner than .45mm will be fragile; thicker than .6mm will stretch very little and be very restrictive.

Sizing
Get a well fitting suit. Don't stretch the suit to fit into it. If you don’t happen to have a standard size body, get made to measure.SkinTightRubber has a sizing chart with a lot of intermediate sizes (like “medium short”).
Zipper placement
Get shoulder zips.Zips don’t stretch, rubber does. That means if you get a back zip and you bend forward, the zip won’t stretch and make it hard to bend; front zips will bunch up if you bend forward. Shoulder zips avoid this problem. They are a little harder to get into, but well worth it for fit.

Codpiece vs. Crotch zip
Your choice. If you don’t need access to your bum, get what you like better. If you like anal stuff, get a crotch zip – otherwise you’ll end up with a codpiece and a back zipper that ends in the middle of the crotch, which is the part of the suit that gets stretched the most.
Options
Four-way crotch zips are great if you like wearing puppy tails, because you can make one opening in the back for the tail, and one in the front for your cock.Lockable zips are a great option if you like being locked in. But beware that they will not stay closed unless they are locked up (they lack the catch that makes regular zips stay closed) so you have to lock them all the time.
Colour
Black is always a safe choice. Manufacturers
SkinTightRubber has a varied sizing chart that also fits some non-standard bodies. Blackstyle does good quality and decent prices. Latex Catfish is cheap and Chinese – they have made to measure down pat by now (although their patterns are not as good as STR's for example) and their quality control is getting better (but still not perfect), but they have very long delivery times. Many manufacturers will do custom work if you ask them nicely, even for stuff that's not listed as an option in their catalog. If you like an option from one manufacturer but would rather order from another one, ask that one whether they're willing to do that option as custom work.
Options for your second suit
Once you have a basic suit, get what tickles your fancy.I love suits with everything (hood, gloves, socks) attached. I have some with an open face hood attached, so I can wear my doggy hood over it.
